Secure Server Pages
Ruby Dunes Hosting Service offers the use of a Secure Server
as an add-on to Web Author or Webmaster accounts. Anything
transmitted through the Secure Server is protected by SSL. The
Secure Server is accessed through a URL of the form
https://ssl#.pair.com/username/, and its files reside in a
separate directory from the rest of your site.
Because of negotiation and encryption overhead, connections through the
Secure Server are unavoidably somewhat slower than other
connections; thus it is not advisable to serve your entire site in this
fashion. However, this is rarely necessary.
If you have a Virtual Domain and would like to be able to use a URL
such as https://www.domain.com/, you will need your own secure
certificate (also known as a "Digital ID")
from a Certificate Authority such as VeriSign or Thawte.
This can be requested by contacting your Ruby Dunes representative. We do not support certificates for
Vanity Domains.
For reasons of economy and performance monitoring, the Secure Server
option is available only on certain servers. If you need to use this
service and it is not available on your server, we will schedule the move
of your account to an appropriate server.
